PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The Oregon Health Insurance Market (OHIM) plans to keep the major changes to financial aid eligibility with this year’s coverage.

OHIM has announced that numerous eligibility extensions will apply to health coverage in 2022, subsequently granting enrolled Oregonians large monthly premium reductions.

In 2021, registered Oregonians in the market saw a 46% reduction in average monthly premiums after receiving financial assistance.

According to the OHIM, the increase in financial aid and eligibility extensions due to the US bailout have dropped the average monthly premium to $ 84 per month.

“We’ve seen people in Oregon sign up for health coverage for just $ 1 a month,” said Chiqui Flowers, administrator of the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace. “If you’ve applied before and weren’t eligible for financial assistance, now is the time to try again. You will likely see significant savings on quality health coverage for 2022. “

OregonHealthCare.gov/WindowShop offers residents the ability to browse plans and determine how much savings they are entitled to.

Residents can connect with health coverage experts online to help them browse coverage options, apply for financial assistance, and choose private plans.

OHIM offers free one-on-one assistance to clients, which can be done virtually, over the phone, or in person (following COVID-19 security protocols).

Oregonians who are not currently insured by their employer or a public program, such as Medicare or the Oregon Health Plan, may be eligible for financial assistance for 2022 coverage at OregonHealthCare.gov.

This year’s open registration deadline is January 15, 2022, although Oregonians who want their health coverage to begin January 1, 2022, must register by December 15, 2021.

Those who are temporarily uninsured can still purchase assistance before the January 15 deadline for health insurance coverage for 2022.

Residents of the state can apply online at OregonHealthCare.gov by January 15, 2022.
