The average cost of car insurance in the United States is $1,674 per year for full coverage, according to annual premiums quoted in 2021 by Quadrant Information Services. The amount you pay for auto insurance is based on factors such as your age, zip code, driving history, and vehicle make and model. Mazda offers a full line of sedans, sports cars, and SUVs at different price points, and which one you choose will impact the cost of your car insurance.

For Mazda owners, Bankrate compared car insurance rates for four 2019 Mazda models for the same driver profile to show the difference in premiums:

Car insurance for Mazda: by model

To find the best cheap car insurance rates for all four Mazda models, we compared rates with the top five car insurance companies reviewed in our 2021 study. For comprehensive insurance, the cheapest average annual rate that we found is that of the Mazda CX-3, while the most expensive is the Mazda 3. However, compared to the national average, all these models are cheaper.

The cheapest car insurance companies for Mazda 3

The Mazda 3 sedan starts at $20,800 and comes in seven optional trim packages. Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel drive is standard on all Mazda 3 turbo sedan models. The Mazda 3 also comes with included features like Mazda Connected Services, which lets you start the car and lock the doors remotely, with access to a health status report, so you always know when it’s ready for maintenance. i-Activsense safety features include traffic jam assist, front and rear sensors for parking and intelligent braking which are standard in the Premium Plus package and above.

The cheapest average annual rate for minimum coverage is with USAA at $334 per year, followed closely by Geico and Amica at a few dollars more. Full coverage provides more protection but comes at a higher cost. We found the cheapest average annual full coverage rates for the Mazda 3 sedan with USAA at $1,135 per year. Amica and Geico round out the top three for comprehensive coverage, based on the automotive transmitters we reviewed.

The cheapest car insurance companies for Mazda CX-3

The Mazda CX-3 Sport is a subcompact crossover SUV that starts at $20,790 for a new model in 2021. The automaker has decided to end of production in 2022 for the Mazda CX-3 after introducing the CX-30 in 2020. Those still interested in the Mazda CX-3 can enjoy standard all-wheel drive and the same connected services and safety features as the Mazda 3. Mazda CX-3 won the 2021 IIHS Top Security Pick+with features like automatic emergency brake detection and lane departure warning.

Average annual minimum coverage rates for the Mazda CX-3 are lowest with USAA at $329, but Geico’s and Amica’s rates aren’t far behind at $338 and $379, respectively. Geico has the cheapest average full coverage rates per year of $1,032. USAA isn’t much higher at $1,055, and Amica offers full coverage for this model at $1,235.

The cheapest car insurance companies for Mazda CX-5

Starting at $25,900, the Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV offers a luxury experience without breaking the bank. The Mazda CX-5 is available in seven optional trim packages, but whichever one you choose, i-Activ AWD and new Mi-Drive technology are standard. Another standard feature includes pedestrian safety through Advanced Smart City Brake Support, especially important for drivers in busy areas with large walking spaces. While these features may contribute to a more luxurious feel, insurance rates are on average at the high end of affordability, which may be because SUVs can be safer in the event of a frontal collision compared to other types of vehicles.

As for average annual minimum coverage, USAA has the cheapest rates for the Mazda CX-5 at $347. Erie and Amica offer slightly higher, but still reasonable premiums of $373 and $379, respectively. If you’re looking for comprehensive coverage, USAA again offers the cheapest average annual premiums of $1,083. Geico is only a few dollars behind at $1,091, while Amica rounds out the top three at $1,241 per year.

The cheapest car insurance companies for Mazda MX-5

The Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible is Mazda’s version of a sports car, starting at $27,300. The MX-5 is designed with a near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution for better high-speed handling, which is an impressive feat at such a low price. This model comes in two upgradeable trim packages, or you could pay a little more for the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, with a base price of $35,000. Although every trim package comes standard with a manual transmission, the Grand Touring has an optional automatic transmission. Each option also comes standard with blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and cinematic posture control.

Again, USAA comes in at the cheapest average annual rate for minimum coverage, costing just $266. Geico and Erie are the next lowest, at $355 and $375, respectively. Average annual premiums for comprehensive coverage on the Mazda MX-5 are lowest with Amica at $1,199. USAA and not far behind, costing around $1,239 and $1,289 respectively.

Other Auto Insurance Coverage for Mazda

  • $500 aggregate deductible
